Use only the official eVisa portal
Most international visitors need a visa to enter Ethiopia. Apply online through the official Ethiopian government portal at evisa.gov.et — not through lookalike third-party websites. The government has publicly warned that unofficial sites are not affiliated and payments there are not accepted.

What you typically need to apply
Prepare a passport valid for at least six months beyond your entry date, a clear colour scan of the passport bio page, a recent passport-style photo, a working email address, and an international card to pay the fee on the official portal. Choose the correct visa type (such as tourist) and your intended arrival date carefully — validity is tied to that arrival window.

- Standard processing is often around a few business days — apply before you lock non-refundable flights when possible
